The Grand Canyon is more than just a valley, that’s for sure. At its widest point it stretches over 16 miles wide, yet when you’re standing there looking out into its vast open crevice, it looks no more than a couple of hundred metres…crazy! I kept trying to train my eye to see that actually the other side was miles away, but with nothing else but air between you and it, it’s virtually impossible to have any spacial perspective – much like the moon illusion which means that a moon in the sky will always look smaller than a moon on the horizon – simply because when it’s in the air we have no land, trees or houses to compare it to in size, so it looks minuscule. This illusion has always been something that has fascinated me since school, so I must admit it was pretty cool to visit the Grand Canyon and see it for myself.

Love the Grand Canyon, have had the pleasure of visiting many times and it never ceases to amaze!
Thanks Justin!
Probably hiking down to the river is the only way to understand how big this canyon is 🙂
I did this twice and would live to go again 🙂
Oh, I so wanted to do that but didn’t have time – it looked amazing…next time!
