You don’t ask whats in a Squiggly, you just enjoy it. If you really wanted to know the nutritional content of this famous Delhi street food, then you probably shouldn’t be eating it…and for the record, it’s pretty much just flour, sugar and fat, but man, do they taste good!
While we were only in Delhi for a few days, we pretty much had a Squiggly every day…sometimes even two! Our local Squiggly vendor even got to know us by the end of the week, however we knew it was time to leave when he started giving us the ‘You’re eating another one of these bad boys again today?!’ look a little too often. But that’s the thing about Squiggly’s – one is never enough!

I’m skeptical about the squiggly, I have to say… !
Hey Steph, me too at first, but I was converted after the first bite!
Ooooh, yummmy! It’s called ‘Imarti’. Another similar-looking sweet called ‘Jalebi’ (slightly different in taste though. Imarti is sweeter), which also you might have come across, is even more popular all across India.
Reminds me of home! 🙂
Hi Abhijit! Thanks so much – Ive been tring to find out what they are actually called!
I love the photo! It definitely left me wondering “what is that?”. My first thought was deep fried shrimp =p. Looks bad for you…and therefore delicious =)
Thanks Lori! Yes, you’re right, so bad, yet sooo good!!
Haha, it sounds exactly like the kind of street food that I love to buy too often, blatantly ignoring my husband’s pointed looks (in Thailand it was the bubble tea). I’ll have to keep an eye out for these when we’re in India!
They’re called Jalebis and they are a Punjabi specialty. Best eaten freshly made and hot.
