Delhi is a wonderfully mad city – from wild animals roaming the streets to the colourful tuk tuk drivers and overzealous locals – anything goes in the Indian capital! So it wasn’t very surprising on a wander through the gardens surrounding the India monument and presidential palace that we came across a ‘backwards runner’ who each Saturday completes a running route between these two landmarks, come rain, hail or shine. This man is apparently extremely well known to Delhi-ites and has been doing the run for years…and in only minutes it seemed that hundreds of passing people would wave, yell out or cheer to him…but he took it all in his stride!
Not many people can get away with the ‘ankle-coolers’ that he was sporting, but then again who wouldn’t need cool ankles on a warm Delhi day?!

I wonder if he runs into people often while he’s backwards running? Seems like a tricky little sport there.
Great photo! Such an interesting city! I enjoy all your anecdotal posts about this country.
