Florida is a hugely popular location for our spring, summer and autumn holidays (assuming we miss the hurricane season) as there is so much to do there regardless of your age. There is Disney World Florida, Universal Studios &The Islands of Adventure and SeaWorld, and that’s just in the Orlando area! The beaches are gorgeous on the coast, and there are plenty of other attractions too including spotting alligators in the Everglades and simply making the most of the amazing shopping malls.
I’ve been to Florida twice, but would love to go again to see the Harry Potter area of Universal. I’m thinking about booking a holiday there for next spring, but if you’re lucky enough to be going this year, I’ve got some tips on what you should wear on your trip. Keep in mind that the weather is likely to be hot, hot, hot when you are packing your suitcase as you definitely won’t be needing your winter coat!
Days at theme parks
If you’re going to one of the many theme parks in the Orlando area, I would advise you to be practical. It isn’t a time for wearing a designer dress! You’ll be going on rides and getting soaked by log flumes, and above all you will be under the sun. Therefore your best bet is shorts, a vest, a sun hat and lots and lots of suntan lotion. It’s almost cool to be uncool in Florida so nobody will question your fashion even if you do walk around wearing a bum bag! If you’re off to one of the Disney water parks such as Blizzard Beach, I’d recommend bringing a swimming costume instead of a bikini as there’s a very good chance you’ll end up “being exposed” when heading down one of the vertical slides.
Days by the pool
Ah, the swimming pool – a refreshing welcome on a hot day in Florida. Here is where you can strut your stuff. If I was you, I’d head to the New Look site to grab one of their bikinis as they are so gorgeous. Once you’ve picked out your bikinis, head to Primark for their beach cover ups as you’ll find sarongs and dresses which work just as well by the pool. If you want to accessorise, you’ll find sunglasses in Boots or TK Maxx and some cool hats in Matalan. The swimming pool is great first thing in the morning so I’d recommend getting up early to enjoy it, just in case the afternoon ends up being thundery for a short while (this happens when it is really humid out).
Evenings out for meals
Don’t be fooled, it’ll still be hot and humid in the evenings whilst you’re away. But many places will have air conditioning so you should be OK when you’re indoors, meaning you might want to bring along a shrug or a cardigan. You’ll get that hot blast of air when you step outdoors though so make sure what you’re wearing underneath isn’t too thick. Linen and light cotton would work well whether this is a dress or cropped trousers.
