Firstly, welcome to my blog, and thanks for taking the time to read it! I’ve dreamt of starting something like this for a long time, and it’s only been recently that I’ve been so inspired by blogs like Nomadic Matt, Almost Fearless and many others that I decided to take the plunge and just do it. In a way this blog is the start of me saying Yes, I’m committing myself to this whole wanting to be a permanent traveller thing…a ‘nomad’ if you will. So, on that note I feel it’s only fitting for my maiden post to set myself some goals for the next 12 months to work towards this milestone in the hope that spreading the word will also ensure that I stick to them.
Here goes…
1. In a year’s time I want to have lived, or be living somewhere else
I’ve been in London for 5 years now, and I love the place, but frankly, there’s just so many more places I want to experience in a this-is-my-city kinda way. Both my BF and I are blessed with relatively flexible working environments, so we may be on to a winner here. I’ll keep you posted!
2. To travel to at least 5 new countries and 5 new cities/towns by the end of 2011
The new countries may be tricky since I’ve pretty much travelled through most of Europe, but luckily I’ve nowhere near covered all the cities/towns I want to visit around here. At the moment I have an India trip booked for April, and fingers crossed a Croatian sail trip over the summer if we can just get our arses together to organise it across multiple countries and time zones. That leaves three more. I’m dying to go to Northern Ireland, but unfortunately as that counts as the UK (I’m sure they wish it didn’t!) the jury’s still out on the others. Can anyone recommend somewhere original, fabulous and off the beaten track a bit for me to visit?
3. To grow this blog into something informative, entertaining and hopefully another revenue stream
The first two mightn’t be too much of a stretch (you’d tell me right?!) but I understand the third isn’t going to come easy. I’ve thankfully learnt a lot from all my fellow bloggers out there trying to do the same thing, so I’m going to continue to educate myself and dedicate the time necessary to growing the site, and in turn hopefully allow others to learn and grow too.
4. To take more pictures of my adventures and post them on the blog
I’ve decided to showcase my semi-dodgy, but improving photography skills through a ‘photo of the week’ post every um, week. I could do it every fortnight, but that just doesn’t sound as good. So, photo of the week it is then.
Ok, I think that’s it, I don’t want to peak too early here people! I can’t say I’ve really followed the SMART cardinal rule of goal setting (Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Timely) but I’ve never really been a SMART kinda girl. I say if the goal fits then wear it, as you’re the one who has to stick to it, not some dude making up acronyms in some office somewhere.
Right, I’m off to toast. Here’s to everyone’s 2011 travel goals, and smashing them out of the park!
Next Post – To Contiki, or not to Contiki…. Sorry, what was the question again?!
Welcome to the travel bloggersphere! I have to agree with you that 1 and 2 could be done. But 3, I think would require a bit more work (well to be honest I don’t really know because I’ve never tried). Anyway good luck and have fun blogging!
Hi Amer! Thanks very much – Im loving it so far and enjoying interacting with other bloggers like yourself! : )
Plenty of off the beaten track places in Ireland. The Aran Islands off Galway or Cape Clear off Cork or Tory island off Donegal and meet the King of Tory, all are wild and wonderful and will transport you to another time and place.
