Designing a logo for your business could be the most important thing you ever do – it’s what people will remember you by, and if you get it wrong it could have a huge impact on your success. Typically, it can be hard to know where to start when brain-storming ideas for your name and brand. Do I design a killer logo first? Or should I buy a box of promo pens from Quality Logo Products with my brand name plastered on them? The possibilities are endless, but if you keep some of these tips in mind you can’t go wrong!
Every Idea – Write It Down!
The first part of coming up with your business name or brand is to brainstorm your little heart out. You might think that some ideas that pop into your head are stupid, but write each and every single one down – it just might be the one that triggers another idea or leads to your light bulb moment.
Who Do You Want To Be?
Think about what your business or blog is about – the heart of it – and write down all the words associated with that thing, feeling or service. Don’t be afraid to be a little abstract either, the more memorable the concept, the better.
Research Your Competition
What do your competitors company names and branding say about them? Do you agree? How can you be better – think of differentiators and ways you can better not only their business, but their branding.
Channel Professionalism
Showing your company or brand to be professional, dependable and ‘number one’ is key here – try to bring that edge to your business concept and let your values shine through.
Create An Identity
What do you want people to think or feel when they see or hear your name? Who would be your spokesperson if you could have anyone in the world? Think of your business as if it was a person, and then describe and ‘dress’ them from the ground up.
Design The Logo
Most people spend hours and hours perfecting their company’s logo – This is your make or break, so make it memorable and relevant!. This is also the time to start checking for available domain names on sites like Go Daddy to make sure yours is free – if you cant get the .com, keep thinking!
Sleep On It…For A Week
Once you think you have your perfect name or brand, don’t jump the gun and start work just yet – let the concept sink in and make sure you still love it just as much in a week. I know that all you will want to do is get started straight away, but this ’embedding’ period will ensure you truly have found the right brand or name for you.
