Travel is a little bit like fashion – some years certain countries are more ‘in vogue’ than others, and others are cast to the side, readily awaiting their rise to the top again in a few years time.
I’ve seen a lot of lists the past few weeks for the best travel destinations of the year, so I wanted to give you my take on things and offer some advice about the hottest places to see in 2012, no matter what your budget.
Bucharest
The capital of Romania is often forgotten about, but with it being out of the Euro zone, there are bargains to be had there now more than ever. There are some great boutique hotels in the city at alarming cheap rates, and you can even take a day trip out to see Dracula himself at Bram Castle.
Hawaii
Thanks to the vast number of celebs who seem to have visited here in the last few weeks, Hawaii holidays are making a comeback. This is definitely the place to go super-swanky, so save up for a 5 star resort and live like a rock star for a week. You never know, you may just bump into one! (Or get Lei’d, if you’re luck!y!) Or perhaps you would be interested in Hawaii Vacation Rentals – who wouldnt love their very own waterfront oasis in Hawaii?!
Iceland
No longer hideously expensive, Iceland is moving up ‘must see’ lists faster than you can say ‘Reykjavik’. The global financial crisis is nothing to be thankful for, but at least it’s made the country far more accessible to the general population. Easy Jet, a low-cost carrier in the UK are even opening a route there from February, so get booking before everyone else does!
Tunis
Last year may have been a year of unrest in North Africa, but now things have settled down, there was never a better time to visit. Tunis is becoming a very hip place to be, and I have no doubt it will soon be the ‘new Marrakech’, but unlike the Moroccan capital, Tunis is on the coast – score!
Cape Cod
Not many people know about this area of coastline in Massachusetts, USA, but I’ve been dying to visit for the past couple of years, and will finally go there this year! Think ‘all American resort’ Dirty dancing style, mixed with lots of wine, golf and some of the most amazing beach, stateside. Maybe I’ll see you there?!

Iceland and Romania are definitely high on my list. And I’ve been to Tunis and loved it (and the whole country) – highly recommended!
I never been to any of those country above but will love to go to Iceland. 🙂
